This past Thursday at the Cactus Moon my buddy and I sat at the same table. The blinds were 50/100 and preflop I had Ace of diamonds and 8 of hearts. I simply call and it ends up being a family pot. On the flop 3 4 and 5 of Diamonds hit the table. One card away from an Ace high flush or a straight flush. I decided to bet a hefty bet and sure enough everyone folds... but my buddy. On the turn, the 2 of diamonds pops up. For the first time in my entire life I have a straight flush. This time I put in an even larger bet and my buddy goes all in. I look at the cards for a second and see there is only one possible card to beat me. Surely he doesnt have that one card.... does he? He tells me if I call then ive lost. But because I was too much in the mindset of thinking I pretty much have him beat I call as I easily had him covered. I toss down the Ace and show my monster full of confidence. With nothing more than a simple smile he turns only one of his cards around and shows me my defeat.... the 6 of diamonds. NOOOOOO!!!!!! First time in my life having this kind of hand and my buddy beats me!? I couldnt believe it and after the dealer showed a 2 of clubs on the river, I just sat back in my chair and watched him rake in the chips. Two hands later he wound up beating my Ace high spade flush by rivering a boat....... with a 2 of spades. Talk about a slap in the face.
